In Luke 11, Jesus tells the parable of the persistent friend and He relates that persistence to our life of prayer. Jesus calls it shameless audacity and it is a quality that He celebrates in us. If you are holding onto a promise or a word from God, do not get discouraged or distracted. Keep asking, seeking and knocking. Jesus tells us "for everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened". Jesus is a truth-teller, so do not give up. Andrew Murray says, "When you get a promise from God it is worth just as much as its fulfillment. A promise brings you into direct contact with God. Honor Him by trusting the promise and obeying Him and if there is any preparation that you still need, God knows about it and if there is anything that is to be opened up to you He will do it, if you count on Him to do it."
Have you ever asked yourself the question, "Why does an all-powerful God need me to pray to get things done?" God doesn't need us but He wants us to be part of the great adventure of building His Kingdom on the earth. Prayer is one of God's chosen ways to bring heaven to earth. This podcast is a teaching Kristen shared at the Omaha, NE House of Prayer internship. Kristen shares 6 foundations of effective intercession.
The true purpose of the Word is to cause our hearts to burn with love and tenderness toward God. "Did not our hearts burn within us...while He opened the Scriptures to us?" Luke 24:32. God writes His Word on our hearts as we think it, speak it, pray it, live it. The Word of God gives us conversational language for our prayer life. On this episode, Kristen shares how to pray the Word from creative meditation.
On this episode, Kristen talks about keeping a prayer journal. Having a list keeps you focused during your prayer time. A list is a guide to use when you need it. A prayer journal helps you record your history with God;to see His goodness, kindness and faithfulness as you bring before Him your requests. Asking is a foundational principle of the Kingdom. "Do not be anxious about anything but in every situation by prayer & petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God," Phil.4:6.
